Pelagi - Chinese Junk Sail (62 ft)
The advantage of
the Chinese lug-sail is it´s easy reefing capability.
Under any condition &endash; upwind, downwind &endash; the
sail is reefed by just opening the halyard and the heavy
fully bamboo-battened sail will collaps panel by panel into
the lazy-jack system. This feature allowes a huge area of
sail to be set in the slack winds so typical for the local
waters there, while retaining the safety aspect of reefing
in a snap once one of the feared sudden and heavy squalls
should crop up. A moderate breeze of 20 knots propels the
vessel to hull-speed: 8-9 knots (see below for additional
specs)
